I recently was reading through the book of Mark when I read something that I had underlined in my Bible, that just seemed to jump off at the page at me. In Mark 11:21 Peter says to Jesus “Teacher Look! The fig tree you cursed is dry and dead!” Peter was astonished amazed to the fact that the fig tree had died. Peter had seen Jesus heal the blind, make the deaf hear and feed more than 5,000 people, and even seen him walk on water, but for some reason cursing a fig tree was amazing to Peter. Peter had seen many miracles take place, but those miracles took place right then, this one was done over time. Jesus cursed the tree Mark 11:14 but it wasn’t until later did they see the result of Jesus’ words. Because Peter was astonished this left the door wide open for Jesus to use that moment to teach all of us a valuable lesson.
Jesus instructs us that if we have faith we can do the impossible (22). If we have no doubt God will do amazing things for us (23). If we believe that that we will receive the things we ask for in prayer then we will receive them (24). The problem that Peter had and the problem that we have today Is that we doubt God. I recently heard the statement that God can do anything but the one thing I need him to do. In reality we all have felt that way at one time or another. But we have to have faith in our God, after all has not made the sun, moon, and starts? Has he not placed the boundaries of the water on the ocean? Has he not created powerful animals such as the lion? Has he not demonstrated his love for us by sending his only son to die in our place? Then why do we think he cannot handle our problems? HE CAN AND HE WILL! This week I challenge you to give it ALL to God!
